BEST AMERICAN FINISH EVER AT THE 2009 PARAGLIDING WORLDS

The entire US Paragliding Team was made up Eagle Paragliding pilots, and they represented us well in Mexico. Kari Castle placed 5th overall in the women’s standings. She flew consistently well the entire event. A huge congratulations goes out to the US Team Pilots for their outstanding performance in placing higher than any US Team in history at the 2009 World Championships in Valle De Bravo. Eric Reed was the first US pilot to ever win a task at the World Championships, and Brad Gunnuscio became the 2nd US pilot to win a task at the Worlds by winning the very next day. Not to be outdone by his teammates, Matt Beechinor finished first on Task 10. Team USA was the only team at the Worlds to have every man on the team win a day. Team USA placed 5th overall in the team standings, and we definitely got the attention and respect of the rest of the pilots and team leaders from the other nations.

We would also like to thank all the 2009 US Paragliding Team Corporate Sponsors and Donors who's generous support helped the US Team finish as well they did. The other nations were very impressed that we had such support from our fellow pilots and peers back home.

BRAD GUNNUSCIO ON THE PODIUM AT 2009 MONARCA OPEN

Brad Gunnuscio on the PodiumCongratulations to Eagle Team pilot Brad Gunnuscio for his 3rd place finish at the 2009 Monarca Open in Valle De Bravo, Mexico. Brad was only two points away from 2nd place, and 83 points from being the Champion. Brad has become the model of consistency. He was the only pilot in the 2009 Monarca Open to score at least 900 points or more on every single task. Jack Brown and Eric Reed did well by getting in the top 10 finishing 7th, and 9th respectively. Lets not forget about Meredyth Malocsay who raced into 2nd place on the podium in the women’s division. Meredyth was pretty close to getting on the US team in 2009, and she often beats most of the boys to goal. As a matter of fact, she just took first place for the women at the Manilla XC open in Australia. A big thanks to the team at Alas Del Hombre and the Nextel Extreme team for putting on a first class event every year we visit.

BRAD GUNNUSCIO AWARDED 2008 USHPA PG INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR

Brad GunnuscioBrad Gunnuscio epitomizes the well rounded paragliding instructor. It’s difficult to match his knowledge, enthusiasm, and his follow up with students and pilots. Brad sets a high standard for instructors with his energetic professionalism, and his passion for sharing knowledge which keeps people safe.

We are lucky to have Brad coaching all of our SIV Maneuvers Clinics. Brad has been the popular choice with his peers and students for coaching SIV safety clinics. He has traveled all over the United States promoting safe flying practices. Instructors choose Brad when they want someone to visit their region and instruct students of all levels. His ability to tailor lessons and instructions to match each student’s needs and comfort levels makes for the best learning environment possible. His effective methods and experience make his clinics the choice for pilots who want a safe learning environment. He put in over 45 days of SIV training alone in 2008.

Brad’s instruction goes well beyond being arguably the best SIV coach in the United States. He is a natural teacher who easily and effectively communicates the safety mindset necessary for enabling pilots to enjoy paragliding while minimizing their exposure to risk. Brad’s work as a knowledgeable safety minded instructor gives our sport a positive image and inevitably helps grow our sport. Brad is based in Utah and runs Point of the Mountain Paragliding with his business partner and fellow USHPA Paragliding Instructor Pat Johnson. Visit their web site www.paraglideutah.com

NIVIUK ARTIK 2 - NIVIUK'S NEW LTF 2

Niviuk Artik 2

We are pleased to announce Niviuk’s newest LTF 2 / EN C Class glider, the Artik 2. The Artik 2 was designed with the same CAD design technology used in designing the Icepeak 3. The Artik 2 has been designed without compromise, designed to bring you performance, agility, security and absolute flying pleasure. Smooth, balanced and responsive handling with immediate reaction to even the smallest pilot inputs is key handling features of the Artik 2. With the highest possible performance of any wing in this class, yet a security level even higher than its predecessor, the Artik 2 will allow you to set your goals and achieve even your highest expectations.

With a 4-riser system and a single D line, the glider has minimal drag with maximum line efficiency. The leading edge very similar to that of the Icepeak 3, and not only provides solid stability at high speed but also more robust and more suited to the elements endured by this section of the glider. The performance of the Artik 2 during turbulence is nothing short of incredible, at low or high speeds the Artik 2 will allow you to confidently deal with even the roughest of air without the fear of excessive pitch or roll. In thermals, the Artik 2 is supreme, it will help you to locate and hook thermals with efficiency you may never have before experienced. With its perfectly balanced control pressure, you will feel how the Artik 2 allows smooth responsive and highly efficient coring whilst all the time maintaining its incredible sink rate.

The Artik 2 is now available. For more information, view the Artik 2 in our Online Store.

NIVIUK ICEPEAK 3 - NIVIUK'S NEW COMPETITION GLIDER

Icepeak 3In designing the ICEPEAK 3, Niviuk has created a competition glider with even better performance than its younger brother the Icepeak XP. The ICEPEAK 3 offers many advances in the design; a unique glider profile allowing maximum stability and performance at high speed, an advanced rigifoil system, a re-designed “low effort” speed system for smooth and significant speed transitions and a minimalistic but very efficient a line plan.

To achieve such high performance, Niviuk has developed the technology used in design the ICEPEAK 3 and with completely new geometry, a flatter wing with an aspect ratio of 7.5, fewer lines and the proven security of the XP, the ICEPEAK 3 is the wing for pilots wishing to reach the highest point on the podiums.

The very first Icepeak from Niviuk was released in 2006 and since that date Olivier Nef and his design team have not become complacent. They continued to research, develop and refine the Icepeak 06, which ultimately resulted in the release of the very successful Icepeak XP. Now, using the very latest advancements in R&D technology, the added years of research and after many prototypes and exhaustive testing, Olivier Nef and the team at Niviuk have now brought to you the ICEPEAK 3.

FRENCH ALPS TOUR

July 1st through July 11th
The 2009 Eagle Tour to the French Alps will run from July 1st through 11th. This year we will split the groups up depending on flying levels to better provide for all the participants. There will be two buses and 4 instructors to guide both basic flying and advanced XC skills in one of the best places on earth to fly.
French Alps Paragliding Tour
The maximum for each group will be 7 so act fast, because the groups will be capped at that number to ensure the highest quality instruction for participants.

The A team will work on site analysis, including walking every LZ, beginning XC skills, ground handling if necessary, thermaling techniques, and getting as many flights as possible from as many different sites as possible.

The B team will work on XC route analysis, potential triggers along course, valley flows, advanced thermaling techniques, flying as many kilometers as possible given the particular day, landing out skills and LZ analysis from the air.

When possible, the groups will fly the same site and as the trip progresses it will be possible for A teamers to join B teamers on larger XC missions.

Prior to the trip, each participant will receive reading material and literature on the various topics described above so that a common area of understanding can be flown from when we arrive.

If you have any questions whatsoever please drop us a line and we hope with the falling Euro that ya'll will be able to join us this year!
