Kari Castle Breaks Australian Tandem Record2/28/08 I arrived in Australia little over a week ago, just in time for the Manilla XC open competition. I've been flying tandem with Cookie all week struggling in the light conditions while getting use to flying tandem again. We had many bomb outs and a few short flights. On the second to last day of the comp I received my new tandem wing, the "Niviuk Takoo" thanks to Rob Sporrer of Eagle Paragliding and the team at Niviuk... We had a chance to put it to the test on the last day of the competition.
We flew for over 7 ½ hours and 227km for a new Australian Tandem Open distance record which WAS held by Godfrey Wennes. It was one of those flights ”that dreams are made of". There was a cloud street at the end of the day that went as far as you could see and we were at base!! We flew into the sunset. It was magic!!! What a great way to end the competition!!! Thanks to our "Crappy" team and driver Dave from River Gums Caravan Park here in Manilla for all the help on launch and the long retrieve from.......we couldn’t have done it without you!!! Kari |
